Retirement
in the summer of 2004 left us free to travel for longer periods of
time. Our first extended trip took us to Myanmar and on to
Laos. Where we very much enjoyed the laid back atmosphere, From Nong
Khai in Thailand we travelled to Vientiane, up to Luang Prabang via Vang
Vieng which despite all the negative things we had read about it, we
loved. From Luang Prabang we went to Phonsovan and the
incredibly moving Plain of Jars then back to LP and up the Nam Ou
River and all the way to the Chinese border via Luang Namtha. We
ended up down South with a week on the twin Islands of Don Det and Don
Khon, perfect. It was a wonderful trip, so much so that as I write
this in August 2007, I am about to embark on another extended trip to
North and South East Asia and will be introducing my oft times travelling
companion Barbara to the delights of Lovely Laid Back Laos. |
| After
leaving Laos Tony went into Thailand to start a dive course and I went
alone to Cambodia. With only a short time available I was only able
to spend 3 days at Siem Reap, and a couple in Phnom Penh. I will be
back in Siem Reap in October2007, hoping for clear blue skies and a break
in the rain to get better photos of Angkor Wat. A much longer
trip will have to wait for another year. |
