The scenery on the journey from Dali to Lijiang is spectacular.  In the absence of suitable washrooms we stopped often for what Jasmine euphemistically called 'beautiful bush' breaks

It's a short steep climb to the caves but worth the effort to see the carvings of Buddhist deities, royalty and animals dating from the ninth century
