Yangshuo is a backpacker town, so is a good place to take a rest from the rigors of 'doing' China.  Check out  'Minnie Mao's Cafe' and 'Fawlty Towers Guest House'.
Fishing with cormorants on the Li River

The birds fish in a net the fisherman has set around the boat.

 

 
116 Yangshuo.jpg (37821 bytes) Nooses are tied around their necks to prevent them swallowing the catch.  The birds will live for 30 years but retire after 20.
Lengths of bamboo lashed together form the traditional rafts.  It takes 4 hours with 3 cormorants to fill a basket with fish. 118 Yangshuo.jpg (39565 bytes)
