Tegalalang

Our first glimpse of the famous rice terraces of Bali, reputedly the most beautiful in the world.

Newly planted, these paddies were irrigated and the mud trampled to make it ready for transplanting.  Young shoots were planted is groups of four to six and will be tended constantly until harvest.

Temple offerings take the form or a pyramid of cooked rice, cakes, fruit and roast chicken. When assembled they are balanced on the head for the walk to the temple where they are blessed.

The offering is a prayer and as such its value is in the care which had gone into its making and not necessarily in its cost..  After it has been blessed it is carried home and eaten
