Rafting 171.jpg (49301 bytes) We walked out of our last hill tribe village and down to the river where the river men had been building rafts on which to transport us down river to their own rural Thai village.

Rafting 385.jpg (38990 bytes) We stopped along the way and the braver amongst us made use of a rope swing strung from a branch high above the river, repeatedly  dropping in to the water and climbing the bank  for another turn.

At the end of   the day we arrived in his  rural Thai village.   Quite different from the tribal villages.   They had electricity, their bamboo houses contained simple furniture and  were set in fenced yards with brightly flowered hedges, water was pumped from wells. 

There was a 'bar' where we sat out in the evening listening to what we thought was distant thunder but were assured was nothing to worry about,  just the 'bombing in Burma' a few miles away.
