Candacraig.   The former Bombay Burma Trading Company chummery.  Presided over in it's heyday by Mr. Bernard, manager and chef.  After the war he stayed on refusing to allow changes to the buildings or menu.  We came here for the roast beef dinner.  The hotel is obviously cash starved but the young waiter did his very best to provide a traditional service which can have little relevance to his lifestyle.

Not much has changed since the time of Mr. Benard the longtime chef and later manager of the hotel.   His daughter Margaret is now  in charge of administration.

The best way to get around is by 'myin yaht'  or bicycle.  We rented a car to drive to Pyin U Lwin.  Hsipaw having recently acquired a two car taxi service.  For $21 the three of us traveled in the worst boneshaker to date, our driver was fast and skill-full,  joining his hands in prayer to give thanks after every close call.  Within an hour the sun came out for the first time in a week. All's well .

For a veritable banquet friendly service with go to the Family Restaurant in town.  Colin inquired about some of the ingredients and as we were leaving an elderly lady returned from the market with small bags of spice for him.  Charming.
