Kandawgyi Gardens.

The coming of the  railway brought Maymyo, named for Col. May, commander of the 5th Bengal Infantry, within easy reach of Mandalay. Only 67 km east of the city at an elevation of 3510', it's  cool temperatures,  fresh air and lack of winter frosts made it an ideal choice for a Hill Station. Many of the former colonial homes still stand in 'English' gardens.  

In many ways the gardens still resemble the English country gardens that the Turkish prisoners of war built during WW1

 

The elevated timber walk takes you through the mid levels of a huge Banyan tree.

There are 430 acres  of forest, lawns, flower beds, topiary a formal rose garden, orchid house, bamboo grove, and lake.

Although the price has risen from 300 kyat to 2000 kyat in only three years, I have to admit it is well worth the price of entry.
