Mandalay Mingun

In 2002 we awoke on our first full day in Mandalay to a distinct change in the weather,  Grey cloudy skies and a light rain.   We didn't know it as we took our trishaws to the ferry dock but we were about to feel the tail end of a Typhoon in the Bay of Bengal.

This photo was taken in 2005 in much better weather

A Reduce reuse recycle, is a way of life in Myanmar.  This colourful sail is made from old Longi.

Mingun, 80 minutes away and across the river from Mandalay.

The distance is about 11k.  Oxen, carts and drivers were eagerly waiting our arrival.  We choose to walk as there was much to see all around us.  We  wouldn't leave without adding this new mode of transport to our experiences.

As smile from 2002 to brighten the grayest day.  The tee shirt and umbrella sales women were pretty tenacious but pleasant.  They will follow you until a purchase is made or a better looking prospect turns up.    There are lots of trinkets, shirts and  souvenirs  to purchase if you have a mind and the prices are lower than we saw in Mandalay.  Many artists display their paintings, carvings etc at tiny stalls around the area.
