The pole is stored along the boom with the outboard end secured by Velcro. The weight of the pole is taken by the 1/8" Spectra uphaul that is secured to the mast about 6" below the jib halyard sheave. In one season of sailing the pole has only come off the boom once and the adhesive side of the Velcro has stayed stuck on. When stowing the pole it usually just drops into place by gravity and sticks on the Velcro by itself.
The uphaul has to go as high as possible up the mast otherwise the pole will not store horizontally. I haven't made it adjustable but those who want to play with pole height could fit a block on the mast and lead the uphaul down into the cockpit. This would also mean you have to reset the height before stowing the pole horizontally so I didn't bother. A downhaul is not needed because the twing is always cleated on the guy and this stops the pole from skying.
The pole is quite small (1.25" OD compared with the Nickels 1.5" OD) because without a center uphaul/downhaul there is no bending moment. The pole acts like a strut in compression. You might even get away with a 1" pole.
