I took the cap off to check things underneath and found everything in perfect condition. You have to drill out all the rivets which is a bit awkward towards the front end and some of the holes in the aluminum trim and fiberglass cap became elongated. I ended up drilling out all the holes and fitting bigger rivets. I also sealed between the cap and trunk with 3M4200.
The mainsheet plate and hiking strap bracket are bolted through plywood that is glassed in place. I just fitted new bolts and larger washers.
