Here, in a tiny temple like structure is Lak muang,  a stone pillar and the foundation stone of the capital.  Placed here by Rama 1 it is believed to have magical properties and the power to grant wishes. but especially fertility and a winning ticket in the National Lottery.  Distances within the city are marked from this stone.

Next to the shrine Thai classical dance, music and drama are performed..  The performers are hired by those whose wishes have been granted. by the spirit of Lakmuang.

This is a comedy duo, who's antics had the Thai audience rolling in the aisles.  It was totally incomprehensible to us but the mood was infectious.

Father and daughter caught up in the performance.  We were the only 'farangs', foreigners present this day and had a marvelous time watching the performance and enjoying the audiences reaction to it. dancers 041.jpg (39312 bytes)
