We came to Bago on the train from Yangon.  It was our first experience of the rocky narrow gauge track.  We booked our tickets at the station in Yangon.   As soon as they saw we were foreigners they directed us to the MTT representative at the station.   He explained fares were always calculated from Yangon.   If you break your journey anywhere between Yangon and  Mandalay, next time you board the train the fare will be the full rate from Yangon to Mandalay.

We hired Myo Min Han and Mg Zaw Moe Hein to ferry us around in their trishaws.  We didn't want to pay the Bago zone fee for only one afternoon so they took us to places with no entry fee or those that were free later in the afternoon.  They were good natured and we enjoyed our time with them.  They are amongst the hoard of drivers meeting the trains and we would recommend them.
