The Patuxai -Victory Gate

Vientiane's very own Arc De Triomphe. A memorial to the Lao killed in battle prior to the  revolutionary wars.

Also known as the Vertical Runway as the Lao diverted the concrete the US had donated for a new runway at Vientiane airport.

The resemblance to the Arc De Triomphe is superficial.  The top is very Lao in style and the interior decorations depict scenes from the Ramayana.

There is a grand view from the top down the processional avenue leading to the Presidential Palace.

I don't think I could drink the contents of these bottles if they contained the last dose of a medication which would save my life.
