We didn't spend all day every day at Smile.  We also rented the generic clunky old Asian bicycle and rode around the town and countryside.  The enterprising Laos make a charge for crossing their bridges.

The oxen finish their fieldwork early in the day and spend the afternoon in the river.  The coolest place to be for man or beast.

I can't understand why so many people say 'avoid  Vang Vieng'.  Once out of town it is wonderfully peaceful.  We had a double room with bathroom in a new guesthouse for the princely sum of $4 and spent 4 days here.

The Market.  

I am sure that all vegetable sellers were  artists in a previous life or will be in the next .
