Situated at 13,000' Tashilumpu (mount of blessings) is a marvellous sight, with it's golden roofs and prayer flags reaching to the mountain tops

Founded  by the first Dalai Lama in 1447, this is the traditional home of the Panchen Lama second only to the Dalai Lama in the Tibetan Buddhist hierarchy.

In early August every year they hold the Ximoqenpo Holy Dance Festival to ward off evil spirits

To the right of the top picture is the towering wall from which they hang a massive thangka again only on special festival days.

I love her face as she enters a chapel by a door encrusted with monetary offerings

Left:  Traditional monastic footwear.  We saw monks shod in everything from flip flops to crocs from runners to dress shoes, but these felt slippers were my favourites.
