The Sim of Wat Xieng Thong   circa 1560 

By the Mekong, near the meeting point of the two rivers King Setthathiraththey chose to build this Classic sweeping roofed Luang Prabang style temple.

It is one of only two temples spared by the Black Flag Haw when they sacked the city in 1887

The Red Chapel

Home of a rare and unusual reclining Buddha.  

The chapel is decorated with beautiful glass mosaics depicting the life of ordinary villagers and the secular tales of the Laos hero Siaw Sawat, to commemorate the 2500th anniversary of the final Nirvana of the Buddha.
