As we only had a few days in Kathmandu after our Bhutan trip I did not have a guide book for Nepal.

We set off hopefully to find Durbar Square and ended up here.  I wasn't convinced, I seemed to remember tales of palaces etc.

An email to our friend Uttam at the Kathmandu Guest House confirmed this is not Durbar Square but Kathesimbhuk Monastery

The Kathesimbhu Stupa is a copy of the more famous Swayambhu and possibly made from earth and stone left over from the original.  As such is confers the same blessings on the old and the lame as would a pilgrimage to the 'real' Swayambhu.

I was not convinced we had seen Durbar Square so on our last day before leaving for the airport we set off again.  This time we got confused by the signage, we were tired and short of time so we never did see it.

When is a Sadu not a Sadu and how do you tell the difference?
