On the afternoon of our last day in Bhutan the indefatigable Bhim led the way to Drukyel Dzong, The Fortress of Victory.

Built to commemorate  the victory of the Bhutanese over a combined Tibetan and Mongolian army.

It once contained the countries first armory but in 1951  yet another butter lamp was responsible for the gutting of yet another dzong.

What remained of the ancient arms were move to Rinpung Dzong.

Only the walls are still standing.  After wandering through to the back we came to a pathway and saw an amazing vista, no wonder they chose to build their fort at this location

Ivy is the only invader of the central tower these days.

Bhim entertained us with a traditional song and dance.  Not sure if this meant he was happy or sorry to be seeing the last of us, .  I hope the latter as we really enjoyed his company and that of Kinley.

We contrived to be first in line again at the airport check-in for the  flight back to Kathmandu..  Sitting in our window seats we enjoyed being up above clouds alongside 4 of the 5 highest peaks on earth. Until next time..........
