The Autumn Festival was just around the corner and everywhere people were getting ready.

Sweeping everything that didn't move. 

Making all kinds of decorations, from the very smallest to the large characters which would adorn the arch at the end of the street.  

We had to leave without seeing the finished product but it must  have looked splendid 

I doubt they ran out of lanterns.

From early every morning until late in the evening this gentleman walked around the streets entertaining everyone with his singsong stories.

Accompanying himself on a long bamboo  drum and clashing together little brass bells on the end of flexible sticks. 

Just in case we should forget we were in China he had an electronic amplifier tucked under his arm.
