Angkor Wat  circa 1113 - 1150

The largest religious complex in the world was dedicated by King Suryavarman II to the Hindu god Vishnu and thought because of its orientation to be a funerary monument.  

It's five towers are said to represent the five peaks of Mount Meru, the home of the gods and the center of the Hindu world

 

I was not to be blessed with a beautiful Angkor sunrise.  

Nor were the other photographers lined up for that must have shot of Angkor at dawn. 

The most notable image of Vishnu at Angkor Wat stands in the western gallery.  Known locally as Ta Reach, the most powerful Neak Ta, it is said that wishes made in his name always come true.  Local villagers come here annually to pay homage to Neak Ta.

In 2003 he was reunited with his head which had been stored at the National Museum in Phnom Penh for safekeeping
